You can learn how to make Nigerian buns in just a few steps. Next to puff puff, this snack is a solid go-to because it’s small and easy to pick and eat in one go. The difference between puff puffs and buns is the latter has a dark brown look after frying, while the former has a light brown creamy look. This Nigerian bun is fluffy within and crunchy on the outside. It is relatively simple to make, but it can also be tricky if it’s not done correctly or the dough is overworked. Follow the steps below to learn how to make the best Nigerian buns.

INGREDIENTS

  • Flour
  • Water
  • Nutmeg
  • Sugar 
  • Yeast
  • Cooking Oil 
  • Salt

  • In a bowl, pour warm water, add 1 teaspoon of sugar and yeast, then cover with a lid and set aside for 6 minutes.
  • In another bowl, mix the dry ingredients – Flour, Sugar, Salt, and Nutmeg. (The flour determines the number of other ingredients you will be adding)
  • Pour the yeast mixture into the mixture containing the dry ingredients and add some water, mix until the batter is lump-free.
  • Cover the dough and allow it to rise for about 45 min. Preheat the oil in a pan and scoop a little bit of dough with your hands or spoon into the oil.
  • Fry both sides until golden brown. 

Nigerian buns are loved by many, and if you don’t like them, then you probably love its brother puff puff. It is one of the popular street snacks in Nigeria and it is best enjoyed with a very chilled drink. You can add milk to the ingredients listed above, and you can probably skip the egg part. However, buns can be enjoyed as breakfast, or brunch with juice and any drink of your choice, such as Zobo. There are other finger foods you can try out, like Puff Puff, Sausage roll, Meat pie, Fish Pie, Chin Chin, Egg roll, and Scotch egg.
