Nigerian pepper sauce, also called Ata-din-din in the Yoruba land, is a nourishing stew cooked with bell peppers, tomatoes, onions, habaneros, fish, and other proteins. This stew requires a lot of ingredients, but it’s simple to put together. It has a lovely aroma and tastes much better. It is one of the most well-known stews in nearby Nigerian eateries. Ata-din-din is mostly known to be spicy, and a lot of people believe the Yorubas love spicy food, so it is not surprising this stew is widely known to be mainly from the Yorubas

INGREDIENTS

  • 300g (yellow paint bucket) of Fresh Tomatoes 
  • 2 medium bulbs of Onions
  • 4 Ball Pepper
  • 200g Habanero Pepper (atarodo)
  • 500ml Palm Oil 
  • Chili flakes
  • Ginger
  • Garlic
  • 2  stock cubes
  • Salt to taste

PREPARING YOUR NIGERIAN PEPPER SAUCE

  • The first step is to blend the tomatoes, peppers, and onions.
  • Heat the oil in a pot with a thick bottom. The pepper mixture should be added and let to fry for a few minutes before the stock cubes and salt are added. Cook the mixture over low heat with a light cover for about an hour.
  • Add the proteins of your choice, and stir occasionally.
  • When the sauce is ready, the oil will float to the top, and the sauce will appear darker. Food is Ready!

Your Ata-din-din is ready, and you can have it with any carbohydrate of your choice, some of which include yam, rice, boiled plantain, potato, bread, and spaghetti. However, you can also try out other dishes like  Fried rice, Roasted Chicken, and Nigerian coconut rice.
