You can also call the Nigerian Catfish pepper soup “Point and kill.” This is because, in some local restaurants, you will have to select the fish you would like to be used to prepare the pepper soup. Immediately you pick your fish; you have your meal ready afterward. This process can be strenuous for the restaurant owner, so most restaurants do not give their customers the option of the “Point and kill” Method.
INGREDIENTS
- Cat Fish (One or two medium sizes depending on the number of people eating)
- 4 Ehu seeds (Calabash Nutmeg seeds)
- Habanero Pepper or chili pepper (to taste)
- Scent leaves
- 2 medium onions
- Salt (to taste)
- 2 big stock cubes
- 1 Small-Sized Yam
MAKING YOUR NIGERIAN CATFISH PEPPER SOUP
- To save time and stress, ensure that the catfish is cut at the point of sale.
- Wash the fish with cold water, then boil some hot water and pour on the pieces of fish. Do not allow your fish to soak up to remove the blood stains. Remove hot water immediately. This process helps to toughen the fish’s skin and prevents it from scattering during cooking.
- Please take out a frying pan and roast your Ehu seeds. Remove them when you perceive their distinctive smell. This gives a unique taste and aroma to your Pepper soup.
- Put your pot on the fire and bring your cut yam to boil. Refrain from allowing the yam to be completely done if you add it to the rest of your soup; the heat from this will help to cook it.
- Place your fish in a pot and pour water just enough to cover the fish, then add in your stock cubes.
- As your fish starts to boil, add your roasted ehu, Onions, Habanero pepper, and Yam (if you intend on cooking it all together), salt, and scent leaves, and cook for 15 minutes.
- Set aside, and your food is ready.
You can enjoy your catfish pepper soup with Rice, Yam, and any of your favorite drinks. It is the perfect dish for cold days and evening meals when your body is weak or you are recovering from an illness. Moreover, if you are a catfish lover but are hindered by how costly it is, you will realize that it is easy to rear catfish (embed link THE BEST PRACTISED MODERN METHOD OF FISH FARMING, TYPES).
