What Should I be Doing While Waiting On My Graduate School Application Decision?

  1. Most importantly, PRAY! Getting admission into a university in the USA with a second-class, third-class, or an HND is possible, but that does not mean that you get it on a platter of gold. You need to put in the work spiritually too.
  2. Get on with your life, whatever you do in it. Work, learn tech skills (there are tons of platforms out there where you can learn in-demand tech skills for free), learn other skills, teach, school, family, buy and sell, etc.
  3. Regularly check your emails for communications from the institution, and respond to them fast
  4. Apply for scholarships
  5. Remain very positive! You might be lucky to get accepted into all the universities you applied to but if not, all will be well. If you get a rejection letter, it is not the end, keep moving. You’ll get your own!
  6. Be patient! As much as anxiety can be attached to this entire process, try to stay calm and patient.
  7. Keep track of activities, and things you need to do in the process
  8. Apply for financial aid
  9. Keep your application decisions and/or plans to yourself, your family, and a closed circle of friends (only if you need to). Not everyone that smiles back at you wants the best for you.
  10. Write appreciation emails or notes to people who have been instrumental in your applications’ successes. For instance, your recommenders.
  11. Continue researching institutions for if you haven’t applied to enough
  12. Spend time with your family and friends. They’re going to miss you when you relocate, and you would too. Put big boy/big girl things aside o, you might wish you did more after you leave and at that time, it might be too late for another 1-2-3 years or more.

All things considered, if you properly read through and adhere to the content of this post, you should be on your way to bagging that admission into a US university even as someone who has a low grade (2.2 / second class or third class) or has an HND degree.
